About
Polly Dawson

Polly Dawson moved from England to Australia in 2016 where she began following her life-long passion of creating beautiful artwork. Polly is a self-taught contemporary artist based on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Her works are inspired by organic everyday moments, warmth of the sun, and nostalgic feelings. Often missing her family in England, she is comforted by the moments she captures in her art; a familiar yet anonymous memory anyone can relate to.

Being a mother of two boys, she is often creating in fleeting moments of stillness between windows of chaos. Polly uses her journey of motherhood and love for nostalgia to continually reshape and refine her evolving style.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about who's behind the artwork.

My Work Flow

(01)

Inspiration

Polly’s inspiration comes from passing moments in her everyday life on the Gold Coast and  nostalgic moments from her summer holidays around Europe. A common theme amongst her work is how the strength of the sun brings a warmth and light to her paintings. With the use of rich colour palettes that are influenced from countries and cultures around the world.

Preparation

Polly's sketch book is where all her ideas and inspirations come together and the early preparations of them becoming a painting begin.

Creation

All of Polly's works are created on rolled canvas. She prefers to work like this to have full composition control and flexibility. In the studio she also carefully considers her subjects or figures and how your eye moves around the canvas to help her get a feel for a painting before committing with colour.
