Polly Dawson grew up in Surrey, England and moved to Australia in 2016. After becoming a mother of two, she found herself both fulfilled and consumed by the joys and tribulations of parenthood. Searching for a renewed sense of identity beyond motherhood, she taught herself to paint in 2025. Having spent many years creating charcoal portraiture as a hobby for friends and colleagues, Polly was immediately captivated by the richness of colour, texture and expressive possibility that oil paint offered. It was at this turning point that Polly knew she had embarked on an exciting and transformative creative journey that she was committed to pursuing full-time. 

Like many artists, Polly rarely felt a painting was truly finished and was slow to celebrate her own achievements. Developing confidence in her work became as much a part of her artistic practice as learning to paint itself. Today, Polly is embracing that evolution and proudly sharing both her work and the artist she continues to become. 

Polly's painting style has developed through intuitive exploration and a commitment to what feels most authentically aligned with her practice. Polly's works bring figures to life through simplified forms, bold colour relationships and flattened space. Facial features are intentionally omitted, allowing figurative paintings to move beyond portraiture and into a more universal emotional space. Rather than reproducing specific references, Polly is interested in creating a sense of feeling and presence through reduction, colour and gesture. Polly's work embraces ambiguity, inviting viewers to bring their own experiences and interpretations to each painting.
